Out in Wyoming, in the lonely area between Cheyenne and Laramie, a tree grows out of a rock. Legend has it that the train engineers used to water the tree as they passed, giving the struggling tree a chance at life. The tree is windblown, curved, and somewhat raggedy looking. But it hangs on, and now it thrives year by year without the help of passing travelers.

We chose this as our symbol of Micro-Business. Many business owners with tiny businesses feel battered, and they survive by finding those pearls of assistance which allow them to keep on - not as a replacement to hard work on their part, but merely as an aid to their dedication and determination. They, like the tree, hang on in the face of adversity, and eventually develop extraordinary character and strength, to thrive in spite of all challenges.
